BookClub 2

To celebrate our third season, we thought we'd make an episode no one was asking for: another book club!

The books we talk about:
The Science of Shakespeare by Dan Falk
The Secret Life of William Shakespeare by Jude Morgan
Ophelia by Lisa Klein
The Book of William by Paul Collins
To Be or Not To Be by Ryan North
The Horatio Hornblower series by CS Forester
The October Daye series by Seanan McGuire

In future episodes we're going to debate the subject, "is Othello about race?" and talking about how to stage Hamlet. Please let us know what you think at shakespearepodcast@gmail.com

Leave the subject name "Othello" or "Hamlet" in the email.

  1. Nice chatty reviews - interesting how you totally dissed The Science of Shakespeare when it's generating pretty good reviews on Amazon. The only one I've read that you mention is "The Book of William" which I agree was an interesting read. I'll skip the fiction treatments - I don't consider them much more than professional "fan fiction". For future book club titles, I'd love to hear your thoughts on:

Shakespeare the Player by John Southworth
Shakespeare in America: An Anthology from the Revolution to Now (Various)

  2. I liked this episode! I hope you have more to come, as a latecomer to the podcast (found it through the Much Ado cast interview via Google). As a transplanted Minnesotan, I hope to hear more. Especially from such discriminating gentlemen who enjoy the October Daye books (I just finished the most recently released, "The Winter Long," and quite enjoyed it.) Small note - "Rosemary and rue" is actually from The Winter's Tale, even though those flowers are mentioned by Ophelia in Hamlet.
